Vice President Joe Biden will deliver remarks at the Science Complex at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Vice President Biden will discuss the importance of helping Americans go to college and the critical role that partnerships between colleges like MDC and employers play in helping Americans obtain the skills they need to succeed in the workforce, especially in the STEM areas. The Vice President last visited MDC when he delivered the keynote address during the 2014 Commencement. He and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have made several visits to MDC and have worked closely with its leadership on national education policy issues.

MDC is the largest campus-based institution of higher education in America with more than 165,000 students and renowned for its academic programs and access, especially in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) areas. MDC’s School of Science fuels our nation’s STEM pipeline and has been a leader in promoting education in science, technology, engineering, and math.  MDC provides students with the tools and resources to succeed and learn from some of the world’s most innovative professors and industry professionals in the STEM fields. At the MDC School of Science, students are doing more than just learning about the sciences. They are performing groundbreaking research and laying the foundation for future scientific discoveries typically not undertaken until the graduate school level. MDC offers more than 300 pathways of study, including the Bachelor in Biological Sciences that allows students to choose from among three tracks: Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutical Sciences, and Science Education.

MDC’s acclaimed Science complex where the Vice President will speak was inaugurated in 2010. The 90,000-square-foot complex features top notch research laboratories with media stations, a Palmetum, a roof-top observatory, classrooms, lecture hall, faculty and administrative offices, botanical garden, greenhouse, and an outdoor plaza. It is considered one of the top science facilities in the nation.

The VP’s visit is truly confirmation of MDC’s value and excellence.
