The new start date for summer term classes is June 1 and the new start date for the fall semester will be September 1. This will allow us time to prepare for the summer during the month of May. This could also provide us with an opportunity to see this crisis through to its end and allow us to return to campus and resume in-person classes. This will help us remain adaptable in the event we need to continue remote instruction for a portion of the summer term.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update #7
The Miami Dade College (MDC) Office of Emergency Management (OEM) continues to monitor COVID-19 global pandemic along with federal, state, and local partners. OEM has implemented a virtual Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to maintain full operational cohesiveness moving forward. As you may be aware, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), extended social distancing until April 30, and issued a domestic travel advisory for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. While circumstances continue to remain dynamic and in a constant state of flux, MDC remains resolute on finishing the term #MDCStrong.
Assignment Suspension and Student Technology Needs for Remote Learning
As we continue through this transition period, I would like to reiterate that classes are fully suspended until March 30, and students are not required to complete any assignments during this time. We continue to receive concerned messages from students who are receiving assignments while they are still trying to identify their technology needs.
In relation to student technology needs, we have surveyed students and identified those that need devices. On your end, if you have any students who have expressed a concern about adequate technology, I ask that you please share the student’s name and MDID with your chairperson so we can contact the student and assist them in acquiring the technology they need to participate in remote learning.

During this unprecedented period in the history of Miami Dade College (MDC), it is extremely important that we reaffirm our commitment to the health and safety of our College community. The diligent work and resolve from our entire College workforce have been momentous. We remain focused to deliver a robust remote learning experience for our students as we move forward.
Based on recommendations made today by the Governor, remote learning will begin March 30 and will remain in place through the end of the spring term. MDC’s remote working environment will also remain in place for employees until the end of the spring term.
As a reminder, all classes, regardless of delivery method, including online classes, are suspended through March 29 to finalize preparations for the transition to remote learning. MDC has canceled all events college-wide until further notice.

A Message from the Interim President – Coronavirus Update #6
I have some very important updates to share. Based on recommendations made today by the Governor, remote learning will begin March 30 and be in place through the end of the spring term. It is critical that faculty continue their efforts between now and March 29, while classes are suspended, to be prepared for this transition. During this time of uncertainty, it is extremely important that we provide our students with the constant of academic continuity they need to stay focused and moving forward with their education.
As part of our shift due to these same recommendations, MDC’s remote working environment will remain in place for employees until the end of the spring semester. It is important that everyone reassess their individual work in relation to an extended remote working environment and ensure that they have the materials and resources they need to perform their duties over a longer time period than originally anticipated.
