Shift in our Academic Calendar

Dear MDC Faculty,

I wanted to reiterate the shifts in our academic calendar shared in Dr. Montoya’s email as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new start date for summer term classes is June 1 and the new start date for the fall semester will be September 1. This will allow us time to prepare for the summer during the month of May. This could also provide us with an opportunity to see this crisis through to its end and allow us to return to campus and resume in-person classes. This will help us remain adaptable in the event we need to continue remote instruction for a portion of the summer term.

Our adjusted schedule is:

  • May 4 – May 31 (No classes)
  • June 1 – August 21 (12 weeks for Summer classes)
  • August 22 – 30 (No classes held)
  • September 1 – December 18 (Fall semester)

I understand this is unexpected and truly appreciate your flexibility. The intent behind the shift is to allow time between the spring and summer terms for additional planning and course development. We have essentially shifted the time off between summer and fall to follow the spring semester. Please discuss any questions you may have regarding these changes with your academic department chair.

Thanks to all for your hard work.

Sincerely,

Lenore P. Rodicio, Ph.D.
