2018 MDC Class GiftClass of 2018 raises $14,139 for student scholarships

Alumni celebrating at the 2018 MDC Graduation

In an overwhelming show of support for Miami Dade College students, the Class of 2018 raised $14,139 for scholarships through the 2018 MDC Class Gift. The amount raised more than triples the inaugural campaign last year.

In total, 686 individuals supported the campaign. They proudly showed their support by wearing their alumni stole at Commencement on Saturday, May 5. The Class Gift is an opportunity for incoming alumni to give back to Miami Dade College. All money raised goes straight to student scholarships.

Supporters of the Class Gift, including John Penagos, know firsthand the positive impact of a scholarship on a student’s life and that’s why they support it.

“Contributing to the class gift was closing the circle for me. MDC helped me tremendously in my path to achieve my dream,” said Penagos, who graduated last week with an associate degree in communications. “For this reason, I thought it was only right to pay it forward and help another student on their path. I hope that, with my contribution, I can give someone this feeling of achievement!”

“As a proud alumna of MDC, it’s been a great pleasure to lead this campaign and see the outpouring of support from incoming alumni,” said Yessenia Perez, Annual Fund Manager for MDC Foundation. “It’s wonderful to see them show their gratitude for the many opportunities they had at MDC by giving back to their alma mater, paying it forward for students after them.”
