Per direction of Florida’s Governor, remote learning will continue through the end of the summer term.
Remote working will continue until further notice.
Regardless of our postponement of commencement, degrees and certificates will not be delayed and will be arriving via mail in the coming weeks.
Dear Sharks, I wanted to check in via video and make sure all is going well for everyone now that we’ve reached the second week of remote learning. You have all done an amazing job of staying focused on your education. Thank you! I will continue checking in throughout the semester just to make sure everything is progressing well for all of you.
The new start date for summer term classes is June 1 and the new start date for the fall semester will be September 1. This will allow us time to prepare for the summer during the month of May. This could also provide us with an opportunity to see this crisis through to its end and allow us to return to campus and resume in-person classes. This will help us remain adaptable in the event we need to continue remote instruction for a portion of the summer term.
These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.
The Miami Dade College (MDC) Office of Emergency Management (OEM) continues to monitor COVID-19 global pandemic along with federal, state, and local partners. OEM has implemented a virtual Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to maintain full operational cohesiveness moving forward. As you may be aware, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), extended social distancing until April 30, and issued a domestic travel advisory for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. While circumstances continue to remain dynamic and in a constant state of flux, MDC remains resolute on finishing the term #MDCStrong.
As we continue through this transition period, I would like to reiterate that classes are fully suspended until March 30, and students are not required to complete any assignments during this time. We continue to receive concerned messages from students who are receiving assignments while they are still trying to identify their technology needs.
In relation to student technology needs, we have surveyed students and identified those that need devices. On your end, if you have any students who have expressed a concern about adequate technology, I ask that you please share the student’s name and MDID with your chairperson so we can contact the student and assist them in acquiring the technology they need to participate in remote learning.
