You attended The Honors College. What were the benefits?
Attending The Honors College provided me with lasting, lifelong benefits. It gave me a world class education that was FREE — books, educational excursions, peer work groups, individual success planning, cultural enrichment courses, endless incentives — all of the wonderful things that MDC has to offer. We did self-evaluations during a college colloquium seminar. The results revealed that service learning and community projects were my passion and I changed my major from finance to education.

The personal benefits included living at home, being able to care for my grandmother, and keeping my part time job with the Miami Heat.

What inspired you to create the Dr. Alexandria Holloway’s Golden Dream Scholarship Fund?
Creating the scholarship is a small token of my appreciation for all that Dr. Holloway has done for me. Plus, it honors the countless hours she spent making The Honors College into what it is today – a producer of global citizens like myself.

When I met Dr. Holloway, I was caring for my grandmother, working and trying to maintain an “A” average in The Honors College. I felt as though I was at the end of my rope and ready to throw in the towel. Dr. Holloway didn’t want to hear any excuses. She saw the potential in me and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Dr. Holloway reminded me that thousands of students applied to The Honors College. I was one of the few selected. I needed to appreciate and take advantage of the educational opportunities that The Honors College offered. And that was the beginning of our lifelong relationship.

What impact would you like your gift to have?
I would like my gift to uphold the mission of The Honors College and Dr. Holloway’s vision to assist a scholar like myself as a reward for their academic achievements to impact the College as a whole.

Why is it important that your fellow Honors College alums give back to MDC?
MDC provided a priceless opportunity for us to become global citizens and lit the fire for our careers. It’s up to us to share that fire with current Honors College students. Investing in the future of MDC is one way to do so.

So you see a special value in donating to The Honors College?
Yes! Donating symbolizes my belief in The Honors College and its vision. If I can’t support The Honors College financially, I support it with my time and effort.

What other information would you like to share with us?
Both The Honors College and MDC are near and dear to my heart. I am always willing to share my experiences and the great things that The Honors College and MDC have done for me.
