MDC’s student newspaper and literary magazines were once again honored by the Associated Collegiate Press during its virtual presentation of the Fall National College Media Convention. MDC North Campus’ AXIS magazine won a second Pacemaker Award, widely regarded as the Pulitzer Prize of student journalism. Heidi Perez-Moreno, former editor-in-chief of The Reporter newspaper, was named ACP Reporter of the Year.
This year’s highlights also include multiple finalists and honorable mentions for three of MDC’s student literary magazines and newspaper. Honoring the nation’s leading publications, the ACP named 28 student-produced collegiate magazines and 46 college newspapers as finalists in its annual prestigious Pacemaker competition.
“The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award,” said ACP executive director Laura Widmer. “ACP is honored to recognize the best of the best.”
