Lady Sharks Take National TitleLocal press calls Lady Sharks a "buzz saw"

Miami Dade College’s women’s volleyball team, the Lady Sharks, have once again captured the coveted National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship, the 10th time they accomplish the feat. The Lady Sharks had a stellar, undefeated post season.

The Lady Sharks defeated the College of Southern Idaho 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, and 25-18). They have won states and nationals two years in a row. Players Camila Hernandez, Sun Wenting and Massiel Matos were named to the 2017 NJCAA Volleyball National All-Tournament team. Matos was once again named NJCAA Volleyball National Tournament Most Valuable Player. Head Coach Origenes “Kiko” Benoit was named the Coach of the Tournament.

MDC’s Department of Athletics prides itself in the promotion of academic excellence as well as sportsmanship. The college’s student athletes have excelled in professional sports and even more in business and industry. MDC teams have earned a total of 35 NJCAA national titles, including 15 in women’s sports. MDC has one of the most storied athletic programs in all of collegiate sports.
