MDC’s Hialeah Campus will recognize the academic accomplishments of the graduates of its General Educational Development (GED) preparation program at a completion celebration and reception, Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m.

“We are very excited to celebrate the accomplishments of these students and look forward to helping them explore new educational opportunities,” said Dr. Anthony Cruz, Hialeah Campus President.

The Hialeah Campus GED Preparation Program provides students with a traditional college learning environment to obtain guided academic instruction in a small group setting that blends the traditional classroom with customized lessons in computer labs.  At the end of the program, the students register for the GED test. Throughout the program, students are advised by college counselors and academic advisors for an easy transition to degree programs at MDC.

The GED test affords students an opportunity to complete their high-school credential and move forward to college programs or enter the workforce. Once completed, a GED credential shows colleges and employers that a person has the skills that are expected of a high-school graduate.

The Hialeah Campus graduated 106 students, of which 36 have transitioned into college degree-seeking programs in 2018-2019. Other GED graduates have entered the workforce through opportunities made available by Career Source of South Florida in collaboration with MDC.
