Miami Dade College Foundation and MDC’s Eig-Watson School of Aviation honored six students as the 2017 recipients of the nationally-renowned Saul Eig and Lois Eig Watson Scholarship at an awards luncheon today.  The 2017 Saul Eig and Lois Eig Watson Scholarship recipients are Reynaldo Aguero, Christopher Bazaka, Edward Hoyos, Sebastian Metral, Carlos Roman, and Jorge Sanchez.

The Saul and Lois Eig Watson Scholarship Endowment was established in 1988 through the generosity of Lois Eig Watson in memory of her husband, Saul Eig.  Today, it is one of the largest aviation scholarships in the country, providing more than 220 awards to outstanding students seeking careers in commercial aviation. The scholarship assists students with the costs of additional flight training required to achieve their next certificate or rating.

To qualify for the Eig Watson Scholarship, applicants must have completed at least 12 MDC credits, be a United States citizen, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and possess a pilot’s certificate and/or have demonstrated an expressed interest in pursuing a degree in professional pilot technology.

Providing high-quality aviation training for more than 40 years, the prestigious Eig-Watson School of Aviation at MDC was among the first in the nation to be granted Air Traffic Control Collegiate Training Initiative status by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  The Eig-Watson School of Aviation has expanded its degree and course offerings to include the multi-dimensional field of transportation and logistics. It is located at MDC’s Homestead Campus with two additional locations at the Miami International Airport and Kendall-Tamiani Executive Airport.
