Each year MDC’s Miami Book Fair (MBF) captures the hearts and minds of South Florida by providing access to a plethora of literary treasures from our community and beyond. For several years, New World School of the Arts has had the honor of collaborating with MBF to offer a tangible representation of this recognized event to the public – specifically, by giving New World School of the Arts visual arts students an opportunity to design the promotional poster. NWSA visual arts student Nicole J. Samper’s design was selected this year to represent what the fair is all about. Her concept, inspired by downtown Miami’s skyline and diversity, immediately draws you in.
“Nicole’s poster design skillfully demonstrates the scale of the literary world we inhabit, capturing the essence of Miami with a vibrant color palette that highlights the diversity of our downtown community and a font reminiscent of the iconic art deco architecture in our city” noted Dr. Jeffrey Hodgson, Provost of New World School of the Arts. “I am thrilled that her design will become part of the permanent collection of MBF posters and will be enjoyed by all the patrons of this year’s Fair. This is an exciting opportunity for our student and one which I’m certain Nicole will treasure as she continues her artistic journey to become a professional graphic designer.”

“New World School of the Arts is one of the premier arts conservatory programs in the country – we are fortunate to have their students as part of our MDC family and working with us at the Book Fair to communicate the magic that is the Fair,” said Lissette Mendez, MBF’s executive director.
Nicole is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design at New World School of the Arts. Her experience includes mastery of typography, branding, digital illustration and user experience design. Embracing both traditional design principles and contemporary techniques, her future goal is to refine and elevate new and existing brand identities and companies with digital and printed works. She also aspired to collaborate with other artists in the fashion and makeup magazine industry and makeup packaging, branding world.
Founded in 1984 by Miami Dade College and partners, Miami Book Fair engages the community through inclusive, accessible programs that promote reading and support writers year-round. The annual eight-day festival has grown into the largest and most comprehensive community-rooted literary gathering in the United States, generating discourse on contemporary literature and current issues of international importance. Throughout the rest of the year, Miami Book Fair hosts an ongoing schedule of activities, including The Little Haiti Book Festival; creative writing and publishing workshops; author presentations; reading campaigns; and Books for Free, a partnership with The Children’s Trust that distributes more than 150,000 free books a year to children in Miami-Dade County.
