United States Secretary of State John Kerry to Address Miami Dade Honors College Students at Freedom Tower April 14

Miami, March 28, 2016 – United States Secretary of State John Kerry will meet with Miami Dade Honors College students at the National Historic Landmark Miami Freedom Tower on Thursday, April 14, 2016. He will deliver an address at a special ceremony during which MDC’s Honors College students will receive their Honors medallion and stole in recognition of their academic accomplishments, leadership contributions, and service impacts. This special event is a prelude to MDC’s commencement ceremonies taking place on April 30th.

Founded in 2002 and lauded by TIME magazine in 2006 as an “Ivy Stepladder,” The Honors College at MDC has brought together rigorous academics, global perspectives, leadership experiences, and the best faculty to create a rich and distinguished learning environment. It has guided its graduates to the most prestigious colleges and universities around the world, creating a culture of excellence and success. It is also developing the next generation of leaders for this community and our nation.

Sec. Kerry’s visit continues MDC’s longstanding tradition as ‘Democracy’s College,’ where top U.S. and world leaders visit the institution. He is expected to bring words of praise to MDC’s students as well as encouragement for them to consider careers in the Foreign Service and public sector. Secretary Kerry serves as the 68th Secretary of State of the United States. Previously, he served for 28 years in the United States Senate, the last four as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. He was the Democratic Presidential nominee in the 2004 election.
