Miami, Nov. 27, 2023 – Two Miami Dade College (MDC) student literary magazines were recently recognized with highest honors. Urbana literary and arts magazine, produced by MDC Padrón Campus students, won its second Pacemaker presented by the Associated Collegiate Press. MDC North Campus’ literary arts magazine, AXIS, earned a Pinnacle Award by the College Media Association in the two-year literary magazine category.
The Pacemaker is widely considered the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate student media. Urbana was the only publication among five finalists to receive the award in the Division III, two-year Literary arts magazine category. In 2021, the magazine won an Innovation Pacemaker.
The annual Pinnacle award honors excellence in student work produced by collegiate publications. AXIS was established in 2002 and first received the Pinnacle award during the 2017-18 academic year. To learn more and read the latest issue, visit mdc.edu/axis.
MDC’s student literary magazines and student newspaper, The Reporter, which this year won a Pacemaker as well, have long been recognized at the state and national level, including four MDC student publications that received prestigious Pacemaker awards last year.
