Miami, Jan. 12, 2026 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) award-winning newspaper The Reporter was named the top two-year college student newspaper in Florida for the fifteenth consecutive year at the Florida College System Publications Association (FCSPA) awards ceremony held in Ocala at the end of 2025.
The Reporter placed in 14 of 19 individual categories including ten first-place awards. The competition was based on newspapers printed during the 2024-25 school year. The Reporter accumulated 36 overall points.
“To be recognized as the best in Florida for 15 straight years is just amazing,” said Yazid Guelida, The Reporter’s current editor-in-chief. “It’s an honor and privilege to be a part of this legacy.”
In addition to placing first overall in general excellence, the newspaper was awarded individual top honors for News Story, Feature Story, Sports Writing, Sports Column, Social Media, Illustration, Feature Photo, News Photo, Website and Design.
The Reporter features 16 pages, prints on a monthly schedule, has a circulation of 10,250 per print cycle and is supplemented by a bi-weekly newsletter and a website. It is distributed at all eight MDC campuses and has newsrooms at the North, Wolfson and Kendall campuses. In the past fifteen years, the paper has won 222 awards from the FCSPA including 141 first-place honors.
