Statement by MDC’s President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón on Passing of Carmé Chacón

We are very saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend Carmé Chacón, who left a lasting impact on Miami Dade College, where we had the honor of having her serve as Professor in Residence for 2 years and organizer of notable events at our institution.

Spain lost a distinguished and iconic figure in its contemporary political landscape. Women across the globe lost a person who always stood up and fought for women’s rights and their contributions to modern society,  and the College’s faculty and students lost a great educator.

We are going to miss Carmé, who left us very young but with a wealth of contributions and humanistic projects, which we will continue honor at MDC. Our prayers are with her son and relatives at this difficult time. People like Carmé do not leave us. They always remain in our memories and hearts.
