Miami, July 16, 2021 – Cuban American singer, songwriter, actor and Miami Dade College (MDC) / New World School of the Arts alumnus Jencarlos Canela is leading an effort with international artists and activists in support of the plight of the Cuban people. A rally for democracy in Cuba will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at MDC’s Freedom Tower, considered the “Ellis Island of the South” for its role assisting Cuban refugees in the 1960s and 70s and because it serves as a beacon of hope for all! The event will showcase a montage of 150 videos from the island, and culminate at 8:30 p.m. with the Freedom Tower illuminated in red, white and blue in representation of the Cuban flag.
“We will hear the voices of the Cuban people during the rally,” Canela said. “As a Cuban American, I stand in solidarity with them and implore the US to help Cuba in its fight for freedom.”
