Miami, Oct. 10, 2025 – In honor of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for her long crusade against dictatorship, Miami Dade College (MDC) President Madeline Pumariega and other members of the Academic Leaders Council who formally nominated Corina Machado will speak at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora. Working media is welcome.
Corina Machado’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize was led by President Pumariega and endorsed by three other local institutions – Florida International University, St. Thomas University, and Barry University. Other supporters included U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Senator Rick Scott, and Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart, Carlos Gimenez, and Maria Elvira Salazar, who submitted a letter of support for Corina Machado’s nomination.
