Popular Randy Boaz ALS Competition for Paramedics Returns to MDC Medical Campus June 17

Miami, May 18, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) Medical Campus is bringing back its famed Randy Boaz Advanced Life Support (ALS) Competition, a heart-pumping event where teams of paramedics and emergency medical technicians are exposed to various emergency scenarios under the clock. The competition will take place on Friday, June 17 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at MDC Medical Campus with local, state, national and international teams.

The Randy Boaz ALS Competition reinforces best practices and techniques, which help enhance the teams’ daily service to the community. It also provides an opportunity for participating agencies to collaborate and share information about advanced treatment procedures.

Sponsored by Humana, the competition attracts paramedics from across the U.S. and abroad. This year, organizers expect 80-100 competitors that include members of Florida fire departments located in Hollywood, Margate, Miramar, Tamarac and Volusia County as well as specialists from Palm Beach State College.

Since 2001, MDC Medical Campus has organized and hosted the competition, which honors the memory of the late Randy Boaz, an MDC instructor and a well-respected leader in the Emergency Medical Services field, who was one of the first paramedics in the United States with a career that started in the 1960s. Revered in the paramedic community, Boaz taught many of the specialists who have been part of the competition, although he passed away several years before the event was launched.
