Popular FBI Youth Academy Returns to MDC’s North Campus July 10 – 15

Miami, June 1, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus, in collaboration with the FBI Miami Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBI Miami CAAA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI-Miami Division), will once again host the FBI Youth Academy July 10-15 at MDC’s North Campus. The FBI Youth Academy is made possible through scholarships from FBI Miami CAAA, which cover tuition, uniforms, classroom supplies, lunch, and field trips. Students receive a certificate upon completion of the program.

The FBI Youth Academy is a unique education experience for students from all walks of life. Select students will participate in a weeklong summer education program that highlights the inner-workings of the FBI organization as a career, while building positive relationships, decision-making and goal setting skills, and college and career planning.

Some of this year’s activities will include an FBI bomb demonstration, where students learn how the unit responds to suspicious packages and investigates bombing, as well as participate in an exercise with a blast demonstration. In addition, Miami-Dade Police Department Marine Patrol/Underwater Recovery Unit will show students how they look for evidence, objects and persons lost in the water.

Qualifying high school students must be entering as juniors or seniors for the 2017-2018 academic year. Selection criteria includes a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a 750-word essay on why the student should be selected to attend the FBI Youth Academy program. Additional requirements include teacher/counselor recommendation and a copy of the third marking period report card.  For more information and to download scholarship application packet, go to www.fbicaaamiami.org.
