Oscar-nominated Actress Adriana Barraza Stars in New Theatre Piece

MDC’s Teatro Prometeo tackles moving topic with acclaimed actress in Important moment of her career

Miami, May 18, 2018Miami Dade College (MDC)’s Teatro Prometeo presents internationally renowned actress Adriana Barraza in Caricias y Ausencias, a world premiere play about family, love and the memories that keep us together, Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 17, at MDC’s Koubek Center Theater. The play will be in Spanish with English subtitles.

On the heels of winning the 2018 Platino Award, which honors films and filmmakers from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, and places her at the ranks of Sonia Braga, Antonio Banderas, and Edward James Olmos—the acclaimed Mexican actress Adriana Barraza takes her silver screen talent back to the stage.

In an intimate theatre in the heart of Little Havana, she applies her scene-stealing capabilities (Amores Perros, Babel) to the delicate subject matter of aging and memory loss in a tender and thought-provoking way.  Caricias y Ausencias explores the fine balance between unconditional love and resentment through the hidden world of remembrance and the relativity of interpretation.

“It is a story about family love, where both happiness and pain are what defines part of our humanity,” said writer and director, Neher Jacqueline Briceño.

“It’s an important acting challenge for me.  Taking my character Estela, by the hand, and traveling with her on a path both painful and unwanted by any person,” stated Barraza.

Framed in the production design provided by Jorge Noa and Pedro Balmaseda of Nobarte, Barraza is sure to captivate audiences in this heart-warming and moving play.

“It is an immense joy to be able to be part of the work led by director Neher Jacqueline Briceno, whom I admire deeply, and to act with my dear Anna Sobero, a student and friend, and share the stage with Rodolfo Jaspe, a young actor and Prometeo alumni with so many talents, and together with Arnaldo Pipke my beloved husband, on one more of our adventures sure to make history in the Adriana Barraza Acting Studio, in a grand collaboration with our dear friends of Teatro Prometeo,” added Barraza.
