Miami, June 11, 2026— The Cuban Cinema Series, presented by Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Film Festival, will present two essential films from the independent movement led by young Cuban filmmakers under some of the most challenging circumstances of repression and censorship: La teoría cubana de la sociedad perfecta (The Cuban Theory of the Perfect Society) and the short film Alberto.
Both films will be screened back to back on Friday, June 26, starting at 7 p.m. at MDC’s Koubek Center. Presented in Spanish with English subtitles, the screenings are free and open to the public; RSVP is required.
La teoría cubana de la sociedad perfecta (The Cuban Theory of the Perfect Society,) is a documentary by Ricardo Figueredo that explores, through several insightful chapters, the absurd notion of creating the so-called “New Man” and the tragic consequences that have routinely accompanied the Castro dictatorship’s social experiments for the long-suffering people of Cuba.
Figueredo describes the protagonists of his revealing documentary as follows: “They are imperfect human beings who have suffered censorship because of what they write or what they think, judged and stripped of their rights for being different. The film is a journey through the thinking of both the older and younger generations of Cubans who live on the island today.”
The short film Alberto is the debut work of acclaimed photographer Raúl Prado. Based on true events, it tells the story of a young man who leaves Cuba during the Mariel exodus and, upon returning twelve years later, discovers a devastating family secret resulting from the violent acts of repudiation inflicted upon those who sought to escape Castro’s regime.
Ricardo Figueredo currently resides in Buenos Aires, while Raúl Prado lives in Miami. The work of both filmmakers documents for the historical record events that have marked several generations over 67 years of Cuba’s totalitarian dictatorship.
