Miami, November 14, 2025 — The Cuban Cinema Series, presented by Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Film Festival, launches a new season as part of the international celebration marking the centennial of legendary Cuban singer Celia Cruz.
To honor this milestone, the documentary La Cuba Mía will be re-released on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Koubek Center. Presented exclusively in Spanish, the screening is free and open to the public with RSVP required.
Directed by Oscar Gómez, a renowned Cuban-born writer, composer, playwright, and music producer based in Spain, the film captures a unique artistic moment. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Gómez collaborated on several of Celia Cruz’s most celebrated albums. The documentary centers on a concert held in April 2001, which reunited Celia with her dear friend, Spanish artist Emilio Alberto Aragón—better known as Miliki—a beloved singer, accordionist, and clown who delighted Cuban children on 1950s television alongside his brothers Gaby and Fofó.
The event’s stage was assembled overnight—without prior publicity—on Little Havana’s Calle Ocho and 15th Avenue, between the well-known Domino Park and the iconic Tower Theater. In addition to Celia and Miliki, the lively show featured other emblematic figures of Cuban popular music, including Willy Chirino, Albita Rodríguez, Donato Poveda, and Alain Pérez, performing with an all-star orchestra.
La Cuba Mía also includes revealing conversations between Celia and Miliki about Havana’s historic grandeur, along with insightful reflections from other musical luminaries. The documentary features additional appearances by Carlos Alberto Montaner, Arturo Sandoval, Guillermo Álvarez Guedes, and Paquito D’Rivera.
