Miami Dade North Campus to Host the Opening of Escuela Argentina Miami, Sept. 26

MIAMI, Sept. 12, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will host the inauguration of the Escuela Argentina Miami, an educational center established to promote and strengthen the cultural ties of American children born to Argentinean parents. The diverse school curriculum will include instruction in language, literature, geography, history and art. The opening reception will take place, Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m.

Established 50 years ago in Washington D.C., Escuela Argentina serves as an extension of the South American nation, providing American children born to Argentinean parents an opportunity to explore, learn and maintain their cultural heritage. Escuela Argentina Miami also welcomes students of other nationalities who are interested in a chance to preserve their Latin American roots by participating in the immersive program.

“Cross-cultural ties have always been at the heart of MDC. North Campus’ diverse location provides the perfect setting for the Escuela Argentina Miami. The school will serve as a bridge to unite a global Hispanic community in a local environment,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, President of the Eduardo J. Padrón and North Campuses.

The school, the first to be associated with a college in the US, is the newest addition to the set of six similar institutes already established in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Greenwich (Connecticut) and Paris.   The school is the second Latin American institute to be housed at North Campus. In a similar fashion, Centro Paraguayo at MDC, offers a broad curriculum in Paraguayan studies.

Escuela Argentina Miami will function as a non-governmental organization with the support of the Argentine Consulate in Miami, the Argentine Foreign Ministry and Argentina’s Ministry of Education. Classes will be held on Saturdays, starting Oct. 5, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., for children 3-11 years-old.
