Miami Dade College’s Tech Programs and Student Projects Will Take Center Stage at eMerge Americas 2017

Miami, June 1, 2017 Miami Dade College (MDC) continues its mission to train future innovators, disruptors and entrepreneurs with trailblazing programs that will take center stage at eMerge Americas 2017 on June 12 – 13, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Visit the MDC showcase to experience self-driving cars, animated short films, startup prototypes, healthcare simulation technology, and more!

The MDC booth at eMerge will showcase some of the college’s most impressive tech programs and student projects. They include the work of four students who completed research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) renowned Media Lab and will present live demos of self-driving cars.

Students from The Idea Center’s Startup Challenge, CREATE, Generation IT and CS50x Miami programs will discuss their individual projects and prototypes. Startup Challenge semifinalist, Leyanis Diaz, who founded Major Marketplace, an online platform for minority businesses, has been selected to participate in the Startup Showcase.

MDC’s Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) will showcase three animated short films created by Class of 2017 graduates in collaboration with Nickelodeon and Fox Animation. The films are Dine & Dash; Levitate and New World Order.

Students from School of Entertainment, Design and Technology (SEDT) will interview visitors at the MDC booth, documenting their reactions and impressions of eMerge using state-of-the-art 4K, high definition cameras and sound.

Students from the Medical Campus’ Benjamin Leon Nursing School will demonstrate how they use cutting-edge human patient simulators – life-like computerized mannequins with physiological responses that mimic real patients – to learn critical skills, such as needle decompression, airway management, CPR protocols, and treating injuries.

For more than half a century, MDC has been training the region’s future workforce in growing and emerging industries, including analytics, logistics, robotics, film and television production, manufacturing, nursing, engineering, gaming, animation, cyber security, biotechnology, entrepreneurship and more than 300 additional academic pathways to success.
