Miami, July 5, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will host a week-long Social Innovation Showcase of students’ artwork and classroom projects, starting Thursday, July 18. The approach is interdisciplinary, and the exhibits reflect the themes of social innovation, entrepreneurship, changemaking, human rights, and sustainability. The event is free and open to students and the public.
“North Campus students have always been at the vanguard of social innovation and changemaking. It is with pride that we inaugurate this exhibit as an annual showcase that will inspire current and future student leaders to continue the great MDC traditions of seeking pathways to justice, transformation, and opportunity.” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, North and Padrón Campuses President.
The showcase will display the work of students who are passionate about advocacy, global awareness, and transformation through social innovation. Projects came to fruition under the guidance of North Campus faculty from the English Department, the Arts and Philosophy Department, The School of Science, The School of Architecture and Engineering and in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary Academic Learning Lounges (MALLs) Title V grant.
Through their projects, students engage in deep learning about global issues and explore topics by examining the social, cultural, and historical background of each issue. They generate new ideas, address contemporary issues, and provoke critical thinking.
