Miami Dade College’s North Campus to Host Children’s Holiday Dec. 9

Miami, Nov. 21, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will again transform into a winter wonderland for its annual Children’s Holiday at North, which kicks off with Santa’s arrival on Saturday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

To kick-off the Children’s Holiday at North festivities at 10 a.m. will be the United States Postal Services’ (USPS) official 2017 holiday stamp dedication ceremony. The Postal Service™ is celebrating the holidays with four new Forever stamps featuring images that illustrate the themes of four beloved Christmas carols: “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” “Silent Night” and “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.”

Familiar lines from each song highlight the individual stamps. The shades of blue in the backgrounds of the stamps evoke the evening scenes from the four carols. This booklet of 20 stamps includes five of each design. The late Howard E. Paine was the art director and artist Steve McCracken of Winchester, VA, created original art for the project. Customers may purchase the stamps by visiting their nearest post office or at www.usps.gov.

Santa’s grand arrival from the North Pole will immediately follow, along with Mrs. Claus and a spectacular parade of Santa’s little helpers, several Disney characters, and riveting marching bands. Children will also be able to take a picture with Santa.

Other highlights include a 12-foot mountain of snow where children will experience South Florida style sledding.  Several live performances on three stages will include a Polynesian dance group, jazz bands, orchestras from various middle and high schools, and much more.

In addition, there will be numerous educational and cultural interactive learning activities such as the Youth in Agriculture Pavilion which features wild animals, Human Rights Spot, the Confucius Institute, the M-DCPS Magnet Schools Zone, a petting zoo, STEM Interactive Corner, Arts and Crafts pavilion, and a Holidays-Around-the-World Center showcasing global holiday customs.

Children’s Holiday at North’s Candy Land food court will offer a numerous selection of food trucks and vendors at a reasonable cost.

Families are encouraged to donate one new toy for needy children in the community.
