Miami, Oct. 27, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus Aquatic & Fitness Center will observe the month of November as Wellness Awareness Month by raising awareness on healthy living, physical activity and overall wellness.
Many Americans understand the importance of physical activity and healthy eating, yet many seem unable to change their unhealthy behaviors to reduce weight and improve chronic conditions. Therefore, in an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle, there will be month-long programming focused on providing wellness, nutrition and fitness information by hosting several educational opportunities, panel discussions and hands-on activities.

Unveiling of the New Aquatic and Fitness Center Logo
Tuesday, Nov.1, noon- 1 p.m.
Building 500 Fitness Center
Come and see the unveiling of the new Aquatic and Fitness Center logo and participate in the festivities. Discover the amazing facility and the fitness programs that are offered to MDC students and employees.
Student Appreciation Day & Meet the President
Wednesday, Nov. 2, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Science Plaza
Enjoy the festivities to celebrate the students at the campus and meet the MDC North Campus President, Dr. Malou Harrison. Alongside the celebration, the wellness month events will be promoted, and wellness and nutrition information will be shared.

Come see the Access Service students overcome challenges as they participate in interactive aquatic team building exercises.

Get vital wellness numbers by measuring blood pressure, body fat and body mass index (BMI). Learn what the numbers mean and how to stay healthy.

Get important information on wellness, nutrition and fitness. Also, measure blood pressure, BMI and body fat. The Aquatic and Fitness Center staff together with Student Life will be promoting healthy lifestyle.
Wellness Fair

Get important information on wellness, nutrition and fitness by participating with the wellness and nutrition vendors, enjoy a five-minute chair massage, CPR demonstration, get fit with a belly dancing class, while a volleyball game and an obstacle course will challenges the fitness of participants.
Drowning Prevention and Pool Safety
Thursday, Nov.10, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Aquatic and Fitness Center, building 500
The Aquatic Center lifeguards will demonstrate techniques on how to be safe around a pool. A demonstration will be specially designed for the preschool Lab children, followed by another demonstration designed for students and employees.
What it Takes to be an Olympian

Enjoy a panel discussion with two-time Olympian Noemi Zaharia, Olympian Cristian Zaharia, and mother of USA Olympic track athlete, Temperance Rollins. Hear what it takes to be an Olympian.

Enjoy a fun and competitive obstacle course and team building event by participating in an obstacle course in and around the pool.
Salad Making Competition

Enjoy a fun salad making competition featuring fresh ingredients, an informative presentation on the benefits of using fresh herbs in daily meals, and the produce of the Fresh Farmers market with fresh items from our MDC North Campus garden.
