Miami Dade College’s MDC-TV Wins 11th Emmy® Award for Outstanding Live Event Production of Video Game Concert 2024

Miami, Dec. 16, 2024 – MDC-TV, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) television station, has been recognized with its 11th Regional Emmy® Award for the outstanding live event coverage of Video Game Concert 2024. The award was presented at the prestigious National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter Emmy® Awards ceremony this month. This award celebrates top-notch television programming across Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama and Puerto Rico.

“This incredible milestone highlights our talented community’s dedication, creativity, and teamwork—technicians, students, professors, administrators, photographers, volunteers, and our amazing MDC-TV crew,” said Ariel Rubalcava, MDC-TV Sr. Producer/Director. “This Emmy® win is a proud moment for Miami Dade College and a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and a shared passion for excellence. As MDC-TV continues to inspire and innovate, we look forward to many more accomplishments and unforgettable productions.”

Video Game Concert 2024 was the highlight of Finn-Con@MDC, a day-long Comic-Con convention organized by MDC North Campus’ Learning Resources Department in June. After a day of engaging panels, workshops, and gaming festivities, the North Campus Lehman Theater came alive with a packed audience eager to experience an unforgettable evening of anime and video game music.

The concert masterfully blended nostalgia and the new showcasing compositions from beloved video games brought to life through a dynamic orchestra conducted by MDC music professor Maestro Alberto Bade, who was supported by an extraordinary ensemble of student and professional musicians. The concert was broadcasted on MDC’s television station and streamed on YouTube, reaching a global audience.

“The Video Game Concert 2024 was more than just a live performance; it was a celebration of artistry and collaboration. By combining the talents of the MDC community with state-of-the-art technology and creative vision, the production set a new standard for live events at the college and beyond,” Bade said.

MDC-TV’s win in the Live Events (Edited) category underscores the College’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in video production. Over the past decade, MDC-TV has consistently pushed the boundaries of creative storytelling and technical expertise, earning a total of 11 Emmy® Awards. These accolades are a legacy of passion, teamwork, and the immense talent behind every MDC-TV project.

“Producing a show of this caliber requires an army of passionate individuals, countless hours, and unwavering commitment” added Dr. Barry Gordon, Chair of the School of Entertainment & Design Technology.
