Miami, Jan. 7, 2025 – Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus Art Gallery, in partnership with Dainy Tapia of Art Seen 365, presents Regina Jestrow: Lots of Little Pieces (aka My Favorite Color is Glitter). This solo exhibition will open with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, at MDC Kendall Campus Art Gallery. Working media is welcome.
Curated by Tapia, the exhibition showcases Jestrow’s large-scale art quilts weaving personal narratives with a tribute to her mother and sister, celebrating their love for shiny things. The tacky-luxe aesthetic, which prominently features in Jestrow’s family home in Queens, New York, continues to influence her artistic practice in Miami.
“We are thrilled to be working with Dainy Tapia to present Regina Jestrow’s solo show,” said Jennifer Basile, associate senior professor at MDC Kendall Campus. “Jestrow’s quilts evoke a strong sense of community and of family, and coming off the holidays, we’ve all been reminded of how important those are.”
Jestrow’s geometric art quilts incorporate hand-dyed and painted fabrics, alongside repurposed textiles sourced from friends, family, and thrift shops. These materials, as well as deconstructed party dresses, serve to convey stories and reference pop culture trends. By employing symbolic traditional quilt patterns, Jestrow creates new, dynamic forms that narrate her experiences.
The exhibition will remain on view at MDC’s Kendall Campus Art Gallery through Feb. 6, 2025. Additional public programs and events accompanying the exhibition include an artist talk at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18th, and a fabric collage workshop for MDC students will be led by Jestrow the week of Jan. 20. Additional programming will be announced on MDC’s website and social media channels.
