Miami Dade College’s Jazz at Wolfson Series Presents Saxophonist Tim Armacost Oct. 14

Miami, Oct. 7, 2020 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy department at the Wolfson Campus continues its popular live jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, with renowned saxophonist Tim Armacost at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 14. This performance will be livestreamed from New York City. Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are always free and open to the public.

Grammy-nominated saxophonist Armacost has established himself as one of the most important improvisers on the New York scene today. Having come of age as a musician in Tokyo, New Delhi and Amsterdam, he has recorded 16 critically acclaimed records as a soloist and performed on more than 60 albums as a sideman.

Armacost composed for trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and has worked with jazz greats Al Foster, Jimmy Cobb, Kenny Barron, Tom Harrell and Peter Erskine, among others. He is a widely respected educator, teaching at the Jamey Aebersold and Stanford Summer Jazz Workshops, and at Queens College in New York City.

In addition to his own groups, Armacost co-leads the New York Standards Quartet and the Brooklyn Big Band, for which he composes and arranges. His most recent recording, Time Being, featuring Jeff “Tain” Watts and Bob Hurst, received a four-star review in DownBeat magazine.

MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live performances that run monthly from Sept. through April.
