Miami Dade College’s Jazz at Wolfson Series Presents Pianist Kris Davis

Miami, Dec. 12, 2024 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy department at the Wolfson Campus will present renown pianist Kris Davis at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 15, as part of its popular jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, celebrating over 25 years. This and all Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.

Davis is a Grammy-winning pianist and composer described by The New York Times as a beacon for “deciding where to hear jazz (in New York) on a given night.” She has released 24 recordings as a leader or co-leader and collaborated with artists such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Dave Holland, John Zorn, Craig Taborn, Ingrid Laubrock, Tyshawn Sorey, Julian Lage and Esperanza Spalding. She was named a 2021 Doris Duke Artist alongside Wayne Shorter and Danilo Perez, Pianist of the Year by DownBeat magazine in 2022 and 2020, and Pianist and Composer of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association in 2021.

Davis’ latest release, Diatom Ribbons Live at the Village Vanguard, was voted best album of 2023 by NPR and PopMatters, among others. Davis is the Associate Program Director of Creative Development for the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, the founder of Pyroclastic Records and Artistic Director of the International Music Creator and Collaborator summer workshop. She is also a Steinway Artist.
