Miami, August 10, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department at the Wolfson Campus kicks off a new season of its successful Jazz at Wolfson Present series with a performance by the MDC Faculty Quartet at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 13. This and all Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.
A creative and skilled group of musicians with immense talent, the MDC Jazz Faculty Quartet is an amazing ensemble of MDC’s own. Individually heralded as some of South Florida’s finest musicians, the quartet features saxophonist Mark Small, pianist Jim Gasior, bassist Patrick Leavy and drummer Ludwig Afonso. As diverse musicians with a variety of musical backgrounds, their performances blend various styles that come together in jazz.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities at MDC, quartet members are active in the jazz community, performing on a variety of stages throughout South Florida, the U.S. and the world.
The quartet presents original works and select compositions from jazz repertoire. They also accompany many of the visiting artists in the series.
MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live monthly performances from September through April.
