Miami, Nov. 13, 2024 – The Arts and Philosophy Department at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Wolfson Campus will host B3 organist Adam Scone at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 4, as part of its popular Jazz at Wolfson Presents series. This and all Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.
Scone is expanding the limits of what people think and expect when they hear organ music. With his instrument acting as lead singer, he serves up a funky, genre-bending experience that will take you on a trip to the outer limits of the soul-jazz universe. Originally from Ohio, Scone has appeared on over 50 recordings, and also accompanied jazz/boogaloo legend Lou Donaldson at the Village Vanguard and the famous Blue Note. He’s also performed with Jimmy Cobb, Melvin Sparks, George Braith and Ben Dixon, to name a few. For years he toured the world with soul legends The Sugarman 3, Lee Fields, Sharon Jones and Naomi Shelton. After years of heavy sideman work, he relocated to Miami in to focus more exclusively on Scone Cash Players, in an audacious bid to take the world of funk and groove by storm.
Between tours of Europe, South America, Europe and all across the U.S., Scone released a number of records in various styles. His latest album, the Brazilian-influenced “Brooklyn to Brooklin” (Daptone Records) is unlike any organ record ever made. Part funk, part beauty and part tropical, this record evokes the feeling of laying on the beach all day and dancing all night. He has also released multiple jazz records to much critical acclaimed. His album “I Scream Scone!” is rated 4 stars by Downbeat Magazine.
