Miami Dade College’s Interamerican Campus to Host Open House for Dual Enrollment Program for Middle Schoolers   

Miami, May 14, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus will host its first summer “Preparing for Student Success” Dual Enrollment course designed for eligible middle school students.  To learn more about the eligibility requirements, and how students can earn college credits, parents and students are invited to attend the Open House, Tuesday, May 22, at 5 p.m. 

Eligible middle schoolers will have the opportunity to enroll in MDC’s “freshman experience” course, which focuses on engaging students in gleaning the tools to develop academic, career, and personal goals. Students will learn college success strategies and study skills, and goal-setting. Participants will enjoy weekly enriching pre-college related activities in addition to their class time. Students will receive both high school and college credits.

The course will be at no charge to parents and will take place June 11-29, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The requirements to participate are the following:

  • Have a B or higher in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, Physical Science, or a Foreign Language (at the high school level)
  • Take the college placement test
  • Submit school and parent authorized Dual Enrollment forms

In addition to the Summer Dual Enrollment class for middle schoolers, there is a computer fee-based camp (Monday – Thursday 1 – 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. from June 11-29). This Summer Technology-Boot Camp introduces students to the basic functions of the most popular applications in the Microsoft Office Suite.
