Miami Dade College to Partner with Purdue University Global To Provide Greater Flexibility and Choices For Students, Employees, Alumni

MIAMI—Nov. 14, 2019 –  To provide greater flexibility to help students fulfill their academic potential, Miami Dade College (MDC) has announced a partnership with Purdue University Global, a public nonprofit online university that specializes in creating a tailored, personalized approach to help working adults earn a wide range of associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees.

“This partnership with Purdue Global offers our students more choices in pursuing an advanced degree with their variety of degree programs and the flexibility of serving the needs of working adults with an online learning environment,” said Philip Giarraffa, Ph.D., director of articulation and academic pathways at MDC.

As part of the comprehensive partnership, MDC students, alumni and employees will receive tuition reductions at Purdue Global to pursue their educational goals. Facilitated by Kaplan Higher Education as part of its operational support role to Purdue Global, the agreement also provides accelerated tracks to earn a degree based on prior college credits, work experience, desired pace, military service and other considerations.

“We are delighted to support the continuing education goals of so many people associated with Miami Dade College,” said Dr. Betty Vandenbosch, chancellor of Purdue University Global. “Our university is aligned with the MDC mission of preparing adult learners with the skills they need to achieve their academic potential and succeed in their careers. We’re proud to collaborate with this outstanding educational partner to expand opportunities for such a diverse student body.”

Of note, Purdue Global’s highly respected and accredited degree programs in a variety of healthcare specialties are in high demand by students who see a growing need in the medical marketplace. For example, the Florida Center for Nursing predicts a need for 114,000 more nurses by 2023 as a result of the growing healthcare needs of aging baby boomers at the same time that 40 percent of existing nurses will be retiring. Additionally, the  Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that healthcare jobs will be among the fastest growing in the U.S. through 2028, accounting for about 1.9 million new jobs.

One of the leading educators of nursing professionals in the country, Purdue Global’s School of Nursing offers nine flexible, online degree options including Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), post-Master’s Certificate Programs and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

Additionally, Purdue Global offers a range of degrees in health sciences, such as undergraduate and graduate programs in healthcare administration and health information management, as well as master’s programs in health education, health informatics and public health.

Purdue Global also offers associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business, information technology, education, criminal justice, legal studies, and social and behavioral sciences.

Purdue Global specializes in meeting the needs of mature, working adults with the flexibility of an online format. About 62 percent of its students are over the age of 30 and an equal percentage have a child or other dependent. Additionally, approximately 43 percent of Purdue Global’s students attended a community college and were awarded transfer credits.
