Miami Dade College to Launch EDGE Workforce Development Program to Train Students for High-Demand Careers in Business and Technology Feb. 15

Miami, Feb. 8, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC), in partnership with Bank of America and PepsiCo Foundation’s Uplift scholarship program, will launch EDGE (Empowered Dreams Gain Economic-mobility) Workforce development program during a ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15. MDC President Madeline Pumariega; Gene Schaefer, President, Bank of America Miami; Vania Laguerre, Senior Vice President, Bank of America; and Dr. Paula Hopkins, Senior Director of Strategy, PepsiCo will deliver remarks welcoming the program’s first scholars.

The EDGE program will help unemployed or underemployed students obtain associates degrees and college credit certificates in high-demand, high-paying fields in various sectors, including business, health, technology, and other emerging technologies.

MDC will provide scholarships and support services to EDGE Scholars, including academic advising and referrals to campus resources. Scholars will also have the opportunity to opt into a mentorship program, where they will have opportunities to network, job shadow, and develop work ready skills toward being on track to thrive now and in the future. The scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books, a stipend and provide on the job training experiences including apprenticeships and internships.
