Miami Dade College to Host Major Voter Registration Rally Sept. 27

Special National Voter Registration Day event will encourage voter registration and participation in advance of November General Election

Miami, Sept. 1, 2016 – To celebrate National Voter Registration Day, Miami Dade College (MDC) will join several key local and national partners including the League of Women Voters, Engage Miami, See Her Vote, New Florida Majority, the Bus Federation, and others to host a major rally to encourage voter registration and participation on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at its North Campus. The program will feature elected officials, college leaders, students, community leaders and the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Christina White.

This single, national day of effort with concurrent events in major US cities is particularly important because it takes place two weeks prior to the Oct. 11 deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 8 General Election.  There will be entertainment, giveaways, refreshments, and of course, the opportunity to register to vote.  In addition to these activities, MDC will have several stations available to facilitate voter registration and information, and the Miami-Dade Department of Elections will be on campus to sign-up students, faculty, and staff for poll worker positions.

Individuals who are not eligible to vote are invited to participate by learning about the many ways that non-voters can become involved in the democratic process, such as volunteering on a political campaign, attending citizenship workshops, and meeting their local legislators.

MDC has again partnered with TurboVote to create a college-wide series of events across all eight of its campuses, helping thousands of students register to vote.  In addition, MDC campuses will provide other opportunities throughout the months of September and October for students to register to vote and learn about the key issues on the ballot.

TurboVote.com is a site where MDC students, faculty and staff can register for free to vote, request absentee ballots, sign-up for election reminders via text and e-mail, and update voter registration address. To learn more, visit www.mdc.edu/voteFor the last several years, MDC has led the nation in TurboVote voter registration.
