Miami Dade College to Host “Latinas. Signs of Nature” Art Exhibition

Miami, August 19, 2025 – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) West Campus in Doral will host the group art exhibition “Latinas. Signs of Nature,” opening with a reception on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.

Organized by the Doral International Art Fair (DIAF), the exhibition brings together Verónica Riedel, Mari Carmen Orizondo and Ilian Arvelo, three artists from Central America and the Caribbean whose work transcends cultural boundaries. Through photography, video and experimentation with various materials, these artists explore the relationship between nature, memory and subjective experience.

Riedel (Guatemala) uses the mycelium, a regenerative organism of the natural world, to create a metaphorical landscape. She uses materials of natural origin and images that evoke the organic world.

Orizondo’s (Cuban-born and Dominican Republic-based) work originates from aspects related to family biography and emigration to create a visual account of the journey. Water and land represent the challenges and hopes of a new beginning. Her participation in the exhibition is supported by ArtMedia Gallery in Miami.

Arvelo (Venezuelan-born and Miami-based) explores the relationship between the body, language and territory. Starting from her experience as an immigrant, the artist incorporates elements from three cultures: Venezuela, Italy and the United States. Land, body and words weave her ties to these three nations.

“Latinas. Signs of Nature” will remain on view at MDC West Campus gallery through October 15.
