Event explores better food movement topics that include soda tax campaigns, progressive food labeling, innovative culinary trends, and digital age strategies for food brands
Miami, Feb. 1, 2017- Dr. Marion Nestle, one of the leading influencers of food policy, nutrition and education, will deliver the opening keynote address at the first annual Better Food Movement Conference on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) downtown Wolfson Campus, in partnership with its acclaimed Miami Culinary Institute (MCI).
Nestle is the Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University, the author of three prize-winning books, including Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health. Her keynote, “Food Politics: From Personal Responsibility to Social Responsibility,” will set the tone for a day of networking, learning and exploring new trends affecting food policy, innovation, and community engagement.
Following Nestle’s address, Sara Soka, policy and communications consultant, will be the featured guest in a presentation titled, “The Sugar Wars: How the Battle Against Public Health Enemy #1 is Being Waged.” In 2014, Soka was the campaign manager for the first successful soda tax to pass in the United States in Berkeley, California.
Additional topics including the potential impact in the United States of Chile’s adoption of a new food labeling warning against dangerous ingredients, and how to build better food brands in the digital age.
