Miami Dade College to Host Annual Learning Resources Summer Film Festival

Miami, May 24, 2017- Just in time for summer, Miami Dade College (MDC) will host the Learning Resources Summer Film Festival. The college-wide film festival will feature a diverse and exciting schedule of movies all summer long, ranging from animation, 1980’s favorites, and music, as well as documentaries on climate change.

This is the fourth film festival hosted by the Learning Resources Department. Previous years included the Welcome to Miami Summer Film Festival and the Shakespeare and Snacks! Summer Film Festival, which garnered city-wide attention with its celebration of the classic playwright’s 450th birthday.

All films and snacks are free to students, staff, and faculty. Members of the community are also invited.


The schedule is as follows:


Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center, (MEEC) Room 1202, at 12 p.m. 

  • June 14 – Tapped, a documentary examining the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on health and the environment.


Hialeah Campus, Room 5101A, at 12 p.m.

In collaboration with the Asia Pacific Heritage Committee, the screening will take place on National Paper Airplane Day and includes snacks and origami activities.

  • May 26– The Wind Rises


InterAmerican Campus, Theme: Climate Change

  • May 30- Do the Math, a documentary about challenging the terrifying math of the climate crisis and fossil fuel industry. Room 401 at 6 p.m.
  • June 6- No Impact Man, a documentary about family that leaves behind a high-consumption city life to dedicate a whole year to making no environmental impact. Room 3103 at noon.
  • June 14- This Changes Everything, a documentary that connects the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Room 401 at 6 p.m.
  • June 27- How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change, a documentary from Oscar-nominated director Josh Fox, as he travels the world examining the existential effects of climate change. Room 3103 at 6 p.m.
  • July 12- Chasing Ice, a documentary that follows a team of scientists as they attempt to record the melting ice caps. Room 401 at noon.


Kendall Campus, Room 2120, at noon.

To celebrate Kendall Campus’ 50th anniversary, music movie screening from each decade.

  • June 28- A Hard Day’s Night, the 60s
  • July 5- Gimme Shelter, the 70s
  • July 12- This is Spinal Tap, the 80s
  • July 19- Live at the Paramount, the 90s
  • July 26- 8 Mile, the 2000s
  • August 2- Frozen, the 2010s


Medical Campus, Theme: 1980’s classic teen films, Room 2101, at 9 a.m.

  • June 20 – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  • June 29 – Pretty in Pink


North Campus, Theme: Action, Room 2158, at noon.

  • June 16 – Furious 7, from the Fast and the Furious series


West Campus, Theme: Climate Change, Room 1119, at noon.

  •  June 13 – Do the Math, a documentary about challenging the terrifying math of the climate crisis and fossil fuel industry.
  • June 14 – Greedy Lying Bastards, How the Industry Has Shed Doubt in Climate Change Science, a documentary about the efforts of the oil industry to cast doubt on climate change.
