Miami Dade College to Host 2021 NSF RESET Virtual Conference

Miami, March 2, 2021 Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Eduardo J. Padron Campus and its School of Engineering and Technology (EnTec) will cohost the 2021 NSF RESET Virtual Conference in collaboration with Syracuse University at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, and Saturday, March 6 at 5 p.m. The conference will discuss challenges and identify solutions for women in accessing Emerging Technology (EnTech) education and employment. Participants will include individuals from the National Science Foundation (NSF), support organizations, as well as the fields of academia, industry, nonprofit, social science, and policy. The virtual event is free and open to the public.

The 2021 NSF RESET Virtual Conference supports the re-entry of women in STEM, especially in growing fields, such as cybersecurity, data science, and cloud computing. The number of jobs in the country requiring substantial STEM expertise has grown nearly 34 percent over the past decade; however, employers are having difficulty filling positions that require skilled technical workers. Women returning to the workforce and female veterans are a pool of talented individuals who can fill STEM jobs nationwide.

The conference is funded by the National Science Foundation Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (NSF INCLUDES) program.  It is a joint collaboration led by Dr. Elodie Billionniere, MDC Associate Professor at EnTec; and Dr. Farzana Rahman, Syracuse University Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
