Miami, Feb. 14, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will announce major investments from Knight Foundation, Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami and the Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to boost Miami’s tech ecosystem by providing the community first-class training opportunities aligned with industry demands. Details will be announced during a press conference at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at MDC Wolfson Campus.
Guest speakers will include MDC President Madeline Pumariega, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Raul Moas, senior director of the Knight Foundation Miami, and other major stakeholders.
The College will also announce the creation of MDC Tech, a gateway to expand technology programs and connect students, faculty, industry leaders, community partners, and community members to support the development of the local talent pipeline in emerging technologies. Students will have access to scholarships, unique networking opportunities, mentoring and much more.
Over the past five years, MDC’s School of Engineering and Technology (EnTec) has garnered the attention and support of top global industry leaders in emerging technologies, including IBM, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, Cisco and Oracle. As a result, EnTec’s programs in areas including cloud computing, cybersecurity and data analysis are among the country’s most market-aligned in terms of curriculum and skills development. Since 2017, enrollment in tech-related programs at EnTec has grown by 120%. Today, EnTec serves more than 5,000 students each year across more than 30 degrees.
With the launch of MDC Tech, MDC solidifies its role as the region’s first choice for tech innovation, training, upskilling and professional development.
