Miami Dade College Receives Funding to Rapidly Upskill With Open Door Scholarship

Miami, Jan. 5, 2023 – The Florida Department of Education recently awarded Miami Dade College (MDC) $1.8M in funding through the Open Door Grant Program aimed at supporting the unemployed and underemployed through training and education to start or advance their careers. Based on eligibility, through a combination of state and federal funding, enrollment in specific workforce programs may be free to many.

“MDC is providing yet another unprecedented opportunity for under-resourced members of our community to level-up their skills, earn a viable workforce credential, and pursue career opportunities in South Florida’s robust job market, all in a relatively short timeframe,” said MDC Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Malou C. Harrison.

The grant supports students pursuing short-term workforce education programs listed below, and it serves as a safety net to cover tuition and books once all other student aid has been applied. The maximum award based on established grant requirements is $3,000. Enroll today at www.mdc.edu/opendoor.
