Miami, Sept. 2, 2020 – Miami Dade College (MDC) Padrón Campus Professor Emily Sendin has been selected as the recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Adviser Award from the College Media Association (CMA), the nation’s largest organization dedicated to serving collegiate media advisers. The award will be presented during the CMA’s virtual awards ceremony on Oct. 23.
Sendin is the lead faculty adviser for Urbana Literary & Arts magazine, entirely produced by students at the Padrón Campus. Founded in 2007, the magazine promotes artistic and creative work and serves as a medium of expression for students.
The CMA annually recognizes the achievements of individuals through various award programs, including Honor Roll Adviser Awards for professionals who have advised for five or fewer years, Distinguished Adviser Awards for professionals who have advised for greater than five years, and a variety of special honors recognizing service and outstanding achievements.
Inspired after being named a finalist for the CMA Pinnacle Award last year, Urbana launched the podcast Urbanites. Urbanites produces weekly episodes that explore the intricacies of the magazine and aims to connect with students through this growing platform.
