Miami, Nov. 27, 2023 – Miami Dade College (MDC) and the nonprofit Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP) are partnering to address the critical teacher shortage in South Florida. The program creates a robust pathway into the teaching profession by recruiting and developing the next generation of teachers. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at MDC’s Padrón Campus. MDC President Madeline Pumariega; MDC Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Malou C. Harrison; and Leslie Miller Saiontz, president of the Teacher Accelerator Program, will be present. This event is open to working media.
As part of TAP, MDC students on track to graduate and individuals with a college degree can enroll in course “EPI 0004 – The Teaching and Learning Process.” This initiative is part of MDC’s Educator Preparation Institute and culminates in a six-week paid summer internship. Upon completion, candidates may earn their teaching certificate and begin their teaching career at a Miami-Dade County Public School.
Attendees at the signing ceremony will have the opportunity to:
- Learn more about the program’s unique offerings and benefits.
- Gain insights from successful graduates who are making an impact in education.
