Miami, June 15, 2016 – The renowned School of Continuing Education & Professional Development at Miami Dade College (MDC), as part of the Florida Training for Manufactured Construction (TRAMCON) Program, will partner with CoastalTishman, Miami Worldcenter, The Development Firm, and the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to bring a special educational opportunity to the residents of the Overtown/Liberty City area in the construction trade industry.
An information session kicked off recently at the historic Lyric Theater for local men and women ready to learn valuable skills in the construction arena. By bridging the divide between schools and actual developers in the field, the TRAMCON Program is able to address the huge need for skilled laborers throughout South Florida by empowering local community members with abilities that will serve them for a lifetime.
Miami Worldcenter, a 27 acre, mixed-use project, which recently broke ground, and will be under construction over the next several years, is expected to employ thousands of workers throughout the life of the project while transforming the downtown area.
“Our company is committed to educate and employ the citizens directly influenced by this project. This inaugural class of 25 students will set the precedent for the classes we have committed to teaching in order to fill the ever growing need for construction labor in the South Florida region,” said James Scarpace, Executive Vice President of CoastalTishman.
Clarence Woods, Executive Director of Overtown/Park West, Henry Crespo of The Development Firm, and Rene Perez of Miami Worldcenter also shared their dedication, gratitude, and commitment for the TRAMCON program.
Through the TRAMCON Program at MDC, students can earn up to seven nationally-recognized industry credentials with no tuition cost in only four semesters. They receive broad training in the construction and manufacturing fields. Two new national credentials have been created by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) specifically for the TRAMCON Program. Students who complete the program will be the first in the country to have these new NCCER Manufactured Construction certificates. They can also earn OSHA 10 Hour Card, the MSSC Certified Production Technician Certificate, the NCCER Core Certificate, the OSHA 30-Hr Card, and the MSSC Green Production Certificate.
Classes will begin June 20 and students will graduate at the end of August. Graduates are expected to begin work mid-September.
