Miami Dade College Partners with IBM to Offer Training in Emerging Technology Careers

MIAMI, June 2, 2020Miami Dade College (MDC) has announced a strategic partnership with IBM to increase its offerings of emerging technology initiatives. As part of the collaboration, MDC will incorporate IBM Skills Academy courses in its curriculum to prepare students with an advanced education in highly sought-after technology careers.

“This strategic partnership with IBM will allow us to prepare local talent with the most in-demand skills in the technology field,” said Antonio Delgado, dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Design. “IBM courses will help our students take their IT careers to the next level.”

Through the IBM Skills Academy, students will have access to training and IBM certifications in various areas, including AI cybersecurity and cloud computing. The first course to be offered, IBM Cybersecurity Practitioner, is designed for those interested in pursuing a career as a Security Analyst. Registration is open to applicants age 18 and older and will accept up to 25 students at no cost for the first cohort. The four-week online course runs from Monday, June 29, to Friday, July 24, through MDC’s Cybersecurity Center of the Americas.

MDC faculty will also have access to train-the-trainer sessions led by IBM to incorporate the IBM content in their courses. Additionally, the College will work closely with IBM in the development of the AI Center currently being designed at the North Campus, expected to open in Spring of 2021.
