Miami, Feb. 6, 2024 – Miami Dade College (MDC) is once again providing free tax preparation services to individuals who earned $57,000 or less as part of the Internal Revenue’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Limited services are being provided Feb. 2 – April 13 at six MDC campuses throughout the county.
Original documents are required to have taxes prepared through the VITA program and include: Photo identification; Social Security card or ITIN for taxpayers, spouses and dependents; birth date for primary, secondary and dependents on the tax return; wage and earnings statement(s) W2, W2G, 1099R; mortgage interest and property tax information and bank statements, among others. To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms. Taxpayers must arrive at the site 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment. To make an appointment and view a complete list of required documents, visit www.mdc.edu/vita.
Federal income tax returns must be mailed postmarked by Monday, April 15, 2024.

The VITA program originated at the Wolfson Campus and was later extended to other campuses. Students are trained to prepare free individual income tax returns for fellow students, their families and the general public. They are supervised by professors and experienced coordinators from MDC’s Miguel B. Fernandez School of Global Business, Trade and Transportation, who review the returns before filing them electronically with the IRS.
