Miami, June 11, 2021 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) renowned School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies, in collaboration with Florida Senator Manny Diaz, Jr., State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle, and other community Leaders will host a Human Trafficking Roundtable with special guest Florida Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at MDC North Campus. MDC President Madeline Pumariega will deliver welcome remarks. Event is free and open to the public with RSVP.
“Human trafficking remains a disturbing problem in society, impacting our most vulnerable. It affects our region disproportionately. It is critical to have dialogue in our community so we can all play a role in preventing human trafficking for good,” said President Pumariega.
Florida currently ranks third in the nation in the number of calls to the National Human Trafficking hotline and in 2014 established the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking. As the second largest illicit industry, second only to drug trafficking, and the world’s fastest growing criminal enterprise, human trafficking is an issue Florida is facing head on.
