Miami Dade College Launches 911 Public Safety Telecommunications Program

Miami, April 28, 2021 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Continuing Education and Professional Development will now offer a Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunications (PST) training and certification program starting May 25. Graduates of the 232-hour program are eligible to take the Florida PST certification exam for licensure as a state-certified public safety telecommunicator.

Offered as part of the College’s robust rapid credentials programming, this course prepares individuals for high-demand jobs responding to crisis. PSTs are essential professionals who answer 911 public calls and deploy resources to the scene of an emergency. The position requires a calm demeanor under stressful situations, strong information gathering techniques, high-level problem-solving skills, quick thinking, and the ability to make accurate, and quick decisions.

The course prepares students with the basic knowledge and skills required by state statute. Successful completion of the class allows students to take the state certification exam to become certified public safety telecommunicators.
